Wednesday, May 8th, 1945 was the day everyone in Europe had been waiting for; the Nazis had now completely surrendered, so “Victory in Europe Day” had at long last arrived!

Sir Winston Churchill was the man of the hour. He was invited to make speeches and to stand with the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Wherever he went, the crowd went wild. Oddly enough, now that the war was over, Churchill’s steadfast bulldog-like quality was no longer needed; instead, the British people wanted new houses, healthcare, and social security, so a mere two months later, the Labour Party won with an overwhelming amount of votes…

About a month after VE-day, Kairos’ life was about to change again forever too; he was finally allowed to go back to Amsterdam. He had been gone since December 6th, 1943 and his year and a half away from home had changed him profoundly… So much so, that he would never truly return.
